    We are excited to be nominated because when interviewing hundreds of shoppers about their experience shopping online for beauty and fashion, almost all of them said the same thing - I want to see the products on someone like me. Shoppers expect to feel represented when viewing brands’ product advertising, and struggle to assess how the product will work for them when they only see brand models or over-stylized brand content. Hue’s inclusive user-generated video integration on brands and retailers’ ecommerce empowers every shopper, regardless of skin tone, age, gender and more, to feel represented when shopping online. Our content creators represent a wide range of skin tones, body types, ages, and style preferences, with the intention of mirroring customer demographics in real life. For example, we launched recently with two brand partners, Laura Geller and Wrinkles Schminkles, who target the mature demographic, who commonly are not represented in mainstream beauty.     I am thrilled to be nominated for Independent Beauty’s Brand Launch award! Fara Homidi beauty is the culmination of my life’s work, 25+ years of makeup artistry. I felt there wasn’t a brand that combined clean beauty with artistry-forward formulations and elevated design. I also couldn’t find any luxury cosmetics that were considerate of complexion- in a way that would speak to how my friends and I looked. We are a diverse bunch from all over the world and we like to take care of ourselves with the best products available to us. Leading the makeup on runways, campaigns, and editorials, I’m fortunate to work with many incredible models with different skin tones. I am leveraging that access to develop the Fara Homidi shades and textures in order to inform and perfect my products. It was important that my launch campaign had a non-compromising high fashion sensibility, which hasn’t been done in beauty. With diversity being a huge pillar for my brand, we featured boundary breaking Paloma Elsesser along with Beyoncé Ambrose and Camilla Deterre, showcasing the products on three very different complexions.

    I created DULCE because I wanted to make a very literal vanilla scent. Taste evolves with time and for me, I want to wear whatever makes me feel happy in the moment. Dulce feels good and sweet, and can be layered with anything.

    Beauty Independent has become one of my most valuable resources since launching Nette a little over two years ago, and I’m so honored to be nominated for the Beacon Awards! They are true experts in the beauty space and know all the established and emerging players inside and out, so it’s a delight to be recognized in this way. We worked hand-in-hand with the amazing Sephora team on our fine fragrance category for close to two years and we are so proud of the five launch fragrances that became the final product—we use the absolute best, most beautiful ingredients available that are scientifically proven to have mood-and-emotion-boosting benefits like upping feelings of confidence and mindfulness. And we are so careful about sourcing—our bottle caps are 100% PCR, our cello wrap is made of corn (not plastic), and our paper is the most sustainable option we could find. Also, many of our fragrance ingredients are upcycled! All of this is why it took so long to launch, but it was worth every extra minute to come to market with something that I can stand behind with the fullest conviction.

    Growing up in 90s Southern California, Sheena was inspired by all of the color, culture, edge, and excitement that surrounded her—from graffiti-filled streets to skater culture to grunge rap on the radio. Sheena took this passion for innovation and reimagined what a beauty brand could be. She wanted makeup that was next-level clean and actually supported her skin’s total health. She wanted it to feel better than anything else—so lightweight, smooth, and comfy it melts right into the skin. She wanted good makeup, not no makeup, that has incredible payoff and made her feel her best. And it all had to be quick and easy, not using a million products and full of complicated steps. Sheena created the beauty brand she was always searching for, but could never find. She named it Kosas, which is the philosophy of the five layers of the self. Sheena believes that the physical is just one layer, and there’s so much more to beauty than just what’s on the surface. Ultimately, she just wants to help people feel their most comfortable, confident, liberated selves—free from any pressure about doing makeup a certain way.

When fair trade practices are put in place, we can be assured the producers are being paid fair wages, there is gender equality in the workplace, and child labor is not an issue.
